Youtube Video Editor Tutorial
Its 2011 and Youtube currently have a new and improved online video editor, what this editor allows you to do is to edit your current uploads online on the fly. The benefits of this online video editing tool is that its easy to use, and you don’t have to purchase professional editing software, the Youtube video editor is a decent alternative that’s free and allows you to include some really cool editing features to you’re video uploads.
How To Use The Youtube Video Editor
Youtube Video Upload Selection
On the video upload selection this gives us the ability to select from any of your uploaded videos so you can select the video you would like to edit, by simply drag-in it down to the video editing board and edit each video how you see fit. Just as I did so on the video tutorial above, were you see how I edited my video intro video in the youtube video editor, its that easy.
Now that you have your video added to the editing board you are given three options trim, rotate and effects.
Trim – Allows you to edit your video by removing segments from the timeline off your’e recording from left to right or right to left in the video trim section.
I drag the same video as an example three times in to the editing board, there you can see I edit each video separately to combine it to a single video, so from a video being 4 minutes 33 seconds long I was able to trim it down to only 1 minute.
Rotate – Rotates your video orientation, so for example if you have recorded something from your phone and you uploaded it to youtube you can correct the orientation if its incorrect in the first place, very use full for phone video recordings, now youtube users can see your video the way you wanted them to be watched.
Effects – Here you can adjust the brightness, contrast, make your video black and white and most importantly you can use the stabilize video which will give you a smoother video without the jerkiness, great feature.
Remix Creative Commons videos
Add Creative Commons licensed videos, search for videos and add or create them on your youtube video editor, or even make a new video altogether. Use the search option to find videos you may want to use.
Youtube Audio
Search for music and add them to the music board, you cant trim audio but you can blend it in with your original video by adjusting the sound balance between the video your are editing which I am pretty sure will have its own audio, on the youtube audio selection just adjust the balance on the music board option to your liking.
Transitions Effects
This is by far one of the coolest things you should use on your videos, 14 transitions to choose from, the cross blur effect is my favourite, watch the video to see how this works it really enhances the look and feel of your videos.
Youtube Video editor FAQ
After I create my new edited videos from my current uploads can I delete the original video used to create this new video?
After you create a new video edit from your current video uploads and publish it, that video is a new video altogether, your original video still remains in your youtube video uploads, yes you can delete the original video but you will then lose your video views and established authority, so lets say for example you have 10,000 views on the original video, and you have just created a new video edit from your original video, ask yourself do you really want to delete it, if the video is established and still getting views, I am guessing your answer will be no.
Now if the video has no views or you just uploaded a new video then thats were you can play around and do your editing freely so you can get your video to look and feel the way you want it to.
LET ME MAKE THIS CLEAR IF ITS GOT DAILY VIEWS LEAVE IT ALONE DO NOT DELETE IT.
Can you add slow motion?
No, the youtube video editor is not as sophisticated to add a slow motion effect.
Can I stabilise my video using the Youtube video editor?
Yes absolutely you can do this when you drag the video you want to edit on the actual editor board, select from the wond icon on the video editor, from there you can select the stabilisation feature to stabilise your video. then just adjust your stabilisation levels for optimum quality.
Can I add my own sound track the Youtube Video Editor?
Unfortunately not you will have to use another video editing program to add your choice of music in to the timeline of your video. If you have an Apple you could use Imovie or if you have a PC you could use windows movie maker to add it in to a track. I have both programs pre installed on my PC and Apple Mac . Check them out and give it a go.
Final thoughts on the Youtube video editor
I use Camtasia studio 7 on my PC and Screenflow for my Apple Mac without doubt it is far more superior than the youtube video editor but as an online editor for convenience this wins hands down its fast easy to use and requires a learning curve of about 15 minutes, yes its limited but simple to use and a very handy quick solution for most youtubers that upload their own videos.
If you’re videos require time and effort and special effects then the Youtube online video editor is not for you, but if you need a quick edit on a video you have uploaded, this is perfect. Its free, its use full and its easy to use, what more can I say.
